The Tuesday Tip: How to Clean Your Coffee Maker

DSC05227

Clean your coffee maker, you say….

hmmmm….

I must admit, this sounds quite interesting indeed…

Apparently, this is needed once a month to keep that optimal coffee taste.

I also need to admit, I have never done this before in my life…

3 years ago, we got our hands on what seemed like the biggest bucket of a certain red tubbed coffee, that lasted about a year. (We didn’t drink it too often…)

But as it came close to an end, we realized the taste seemed to be going down hill.

“flavor lock seal”…. mmm hmmm….

Well, in a more recent effort, we shelled out quite a bit more cash to get the good stuff. It comes in an orange and white resealable bag from the “bulk food store” and it makes you think of donuts….

It was good, but still had a somewhat… well unexplainable flavor. I mean, not “bad” as in “ewww” but more of an “ehhh” as In “the price and flavor of these grounds are way over rated…”

But how can such a delicious aroma produce such an average cup of joe?

My question exactly…

Turns out, over time, hard water and baked coffee can build up on the inside of your machine and the flavor can actually taint the coffee itself.

No, no, my friend, it’s not just carafe that needs a cleaning.

Fortunately for you, it’s really easy, and you don’t even need gloves….

  • Fill your coffee pot 1/3 full of distilled white vinegar and 2/3 full cool fresh water. (3 cups vin to 6 cups water) (If this is your makers first cleaning since you got it, way back then, make it a 50/50 solution)
  • Place a clean coffee filter in the filter basket.
  • run maker according to manufacturers directions
  • wait 15 minutes, throw away the filter and water.
  • Run a second time with a new filter and fresh, cool water only.
  • Run again with cool water to rinse really well.

Bask in the aroma and flavor of a clean cup of coffee you never even knew you were missing out on.

Fin ❤

  1. Thanks we don’t drink coffee that often. I’ve had my current coffeemaker about a year and I’m sure it’s due for a cleaning. Especially with the hard water here in AZ.
